As part of our back to school unit, we’ve been talking about what it means to listen and to express our feelings.  Yesterday we talked about listening to others and being a good friend.  Today we talked about expressing how we feel and why.  We taught I messages and how we feel when certain things happen.  Students practiced saying those sentences to each other and completing a self portrait.

Well hello everyone!  Welcome to the kickoff to the 2013-2014 school year here at Mr. Daniel’s K-1 scholars.  Whether you are a parent of one of my students coming here to check out what we will be covering, or a teacher coming here for ideas; you are sure to find something interesting!

I’d like to start off by saying I am incredibly excited and blessed to be back up here in Shaktoolik, Alaska teaching K-1.  We are going to have a lot to work on this year but a lot of fun doing it.

If you’ve read any of the website you’ll see I am a big subscriber to the workshop model and will be incorporating that into my classroom with SFA as the literacy program, and EnVision as my math program.  If you have any question as to what I mean by workshop model I suggest you head over to my Curriculum Page to find out!

I have a lot I will be adding to this site very soon but in the meantime check out my announcements page.  Here is where I will be sending out virtually any communication that I will be sending home to parents.  If you’re a teacher check it out to see my example of a beginning of the year parent letter.
