As we continued to learn about how fall effects our community and the rest of the world, we read the book Autumn’s First Leaf and wrote about if we were the character Point, what fall color we’d like to turn into.

To help our students be able to read on their own, students read an emergent reader book about different fall colors. They wrote in the sight word ‘I’ and colored the leaves based on what the book said.

We also went on a scavenger hunt and searched for different items that represented the season of fall. Students searched for things like different color leaves, acorns, pinecones, grass, etc.

To finish of the week of our fall unit, we read the story Autumn’s First Leaf by Steve Metzger and discussed the problem and solution of the story.  We then talked about if we were the character Pointy, what fall color we would have liked to have been.

Later that day, we went on a fall leaf hunt.  Students tried to collect all five of the fall colors.  We took the leaves back into the classroom and sorted them by color and made a graph of our favorite leaf color.

We learned a new song called “Autumn Leaves” by the learning station.  We also read the story “Autumn’s First Leaf” and talked about our favorite fall colors and practiced completing sentences with our sight words.

We also added a new poem into our poetry journals and made tissue paper fall trees.

Continuing with our fall theme we read Autumn’s First Leaf by Steve Metzger.  We talked about the problem and solution of the story.  Then we talked about our favorite fall color and said what color we would have liked to have been if we were pointy.
