For the past two weeks one of the reading skills the students have been learning is how to compare and contrast their lives to books.  This week we reread and discussed the story Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes and talked about white was probably the color he liked the best since those were the shoes he had.  Students decided which color is their favorite color and made their own Pete the Cats (wearing their favorite colored shoes) with construction paper.  They also completed the sentence “I love my ________________ shoes.”

Sorry this is so late, things have been busy over here.  A few weeks ago we celebrated Presidents day and we learned about two famous presidents; George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  We read stories about both presidents and read an easy reader  called All About America.

After we read the story about George Washington; we made a list of describing words to describe George Washington and wrote about what we learned.  Finally we made two presidents out of construction paper and cotton balls.  On one side we made George Washington, on the other side we made Abraham Lincoln.

Today we read the story Valentine Friends in celebration of our upcoming Valentine’s Day party.  After we read the story we created a heart shaped web illustrating the main idea and details from the story.

In the story the characters learned how to make construction paper hearts, so we used the directions in the story to make construction paper hearts.  On the hearts we wrote about one key detail we learned from the story.
