This week is Polar Express week! We started the week with reading the book Polar Express by Christ Van Allsburg. After we read the story we retold the story with sequence cards by putting the cards in the correct order. Then students completed a cut and paste activity to retell the sequence of their story. Polar Express retell came from Simply Kinder.
Last week we had our mini unit on The Mitten by Jan Brett, and we began with reading it whole group. Then we created an anchor chart and discussed the elements of the story.
Next we completed a mitten sequence cut and paste activity; illustrating the order that the animals entered in the mitten. Finally students retold the story by acting out the story using masks printed out from Jan Brett’s website.
This week marks my favorite week, The Polar Express week! On Monday we read the story and students retold the story by putting pictures in the right order. They also shared with the class what happened on their part of the story. Finally they retold the story in correct sequence order by doing a cut and paste activity.
Today students wrote about what they would choose as the first gift of Christmas (A silver bell, pony, and genie bottle). At the end of the day students created a train glyph, answering questions about trains.
We read the story “Gingerbread Boy” and sequenced the story in the correct order of who chased after the Gingerbread boy.
We also watched another version of The Gingerbread Man on the smart board and wrote about things that we would run away from. We also made a gingerbread flip book using describing words.
First we read the story “There Was And Old Lady Who Swallowed a Turkey”, talked about the different thanksgiving food she ate and what food group they belonged to. Then we created models of ourselves, with pictures of the things the old lady swallowed glued to our “stomachs”, in the correct sequence order.
This week we began our Halloween theme and we read the story The Vanishing Pumpkin. We talked about the problem and solution of the story and illustrated it using markers. We also retold the story by putting pictures from the book back into the correct sequence.
