This week we learned about colors and how to read the color words. Each day we celebrated a specific color. For morning seatwork each day students copied color words onto poems and circled other identifiable sight words.

Students read an emergent reader book called “I Can Read Colors” and colored the pictures based on the matching color word. Students practiced reading the books in school and then took them home to read them at home.

Also each day based on the color that we were celebrating, each student brought their favorite things for show and tell that matched the color of the day. Most students brought their favorite toys and one student brought crafts that they created.

For Fiesta Friday students got to make an art project and watch a video based on the book “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?“. Students made a brown bear puppet that retold what happened in the story and put the story in the correct sequence.

This last week our theme was Color Week.  Our goal was to be able to read all the color words and celebrate a color a day.  Each day we celebrated a color by bringing in something for show and tell that represented each color.  Monday was red, Tuesday was orange, Wednesday was yellow, Thursday was green.  We also played games that matched each color per day on www.starfall.com.  Finally we completed poems by writing the color sight word in the blank lines.  The poems can be found here.

This week we started our All About Me unit about where our All-Stars can learn how to be proud about their individuality and get to know their classmates.  Yesterday we got our All About Me Bags where students can bring it items from home and share about themselves.  You can get the All About Me Bags here.

Today we read the story I’m Special, I’m Me by Ann Meek and then we started on our I’m Special student books that asks questions about students favorite color, how many letters in their names, what they want to be when they grow up.  You can find I am Special books here.
